Wellness and Preventative Care

Regular check-ups are the foundation of longevity. At Southern Coastal Vet, we recommend semi-annual comprehensive exams. We provide thorough nose-to-tail evaluations to fully assess your pet’s health.

It’s important that your pet receives a customized care plan based on age, breed, and lifestyle.

What Does This Include?

  • Vaccinations: Customized vaccination plans tailored to your pet. Don’t want to over-vaccinate? Don’t worry — we don’t either. We follow AAHA protocols and customize each plan based on lifestyle. We also offer vaccine titers.
  • Dental Care and Assessment: Oral health is vital to your pet’s longevity. We offer full oral assessments and cleaning recommendations.
  • Parasite Testing and Control
  • Advanced Diagnostics: Including bloodwork, imaging, and early screening tests for the early detection of disease.

Senior Wellness Care

Our goal at Southern Coastal is to help your pet live a long, healthy life while prioritizing comfort and quality. Senior pets have different needs compared to younger patients. We aim to detect changes early so we can provide early intervention.

We offer packages that include bi-annual bloodwork, radiographs, blood pressure checks, and ultrasounds to ensure we are providing your beloved family member with the most comprehensive testing available.

Exotic Mammal Care

We see select exotic mammals at our practice, including foxes, skunks, raccoons, exotic felines, and some primates. Please contact us for more information.

  • Gastropexy
  • Laceration repairs

If you have questions about surgery, please contact us to schedule a surgical consult.

What to Expect on the Day of Surgery

High-quality care begins before your pet is even scheduled for surgery. A member of our team will review all options with you, and once you feel confident moving forward, we will schedule pre-anesthetic bloodwork and a date for the procedure.

Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is performed to ensure your pet is healthy enough for surgery, and it can be done the morning of, if needed.

While your pet is under our care, our team will provide:

  • A dedicated team member to monitor vital signs (oxygen levels, carbon dioxide, ECG, blood pressure, and temperature), as well as diet, intake, and eliminations.
  • Post-surgical therapeutic laser therapy, if indicated, to reduce pain and inflammation and help your pet heal faster.
  • Soft bedding, low-stress handling, and lots of love and snuggles from our team members.
  • Regular updates throughout the day.

Preventative Dental Care

Brushing your pet’s teeth daily helps minimize tartar buildup and may reduce the need for advanced dental care.

Nutritional Counseling

Proper nutrition is essential for maintaining your pet’s health and promoting a strong immune system. Every pet’s nutritional needs differ based on age, breed, medical conditions, and lifestyle.

At Southern Coastal, we assist you with a comprehensive, evidence-based nutrition plan that supports both your lifestyle and your pet’s long-term health.

In-House Labs and Advanced Diagnostics

At Southern Coastal Vet, we understand that some cases require immediate answers. We have state-of-the-art equipment to provide in-house bloodwork, radiographs, and abdominal ultrasound, ensuring your pet receives prompt and high-quality care.

Regenerative Medicine

Movement plays a major role in your dog’s health, recovery, and quality of life. At Southern Coastal Vet, we offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy to help pets heal comfortably, regain strength, and stay active longer.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses the healing properties in your dog's own blood to treat conditions such as:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Ligament and tendon injuries
  • Chronic pain

Because PRP comes from your pet’s own body, it’s a safe, minimally invasive option that works alongside other treatments and rehabilitation plans.

How Does PRP Work for Dogs?

A veterinarian draws a small blood sample and processes it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets. These platelets contain powerful growth factors that support tissue repair and regeneration.

The concentrated PRP is then carefully injected into the targeted area, where it helps recruit stem cells, encourage new blood vessel formation, and reduce inflammation and discomfort.

Benefits of PRP

  • Nonsurgical support for ligament and tendon injuries
  • Relief from osteoarthritis discomfort
  • Faster healing after orthopedic injury
  • Improved mobility and joint function
  • Reduced inflammation and pain

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, offers a gentle, medication-free way to ease pain and reduce inflammation in pets. It delivers focused light wavelengths into targeted tissues, stimulating cellular activity and encouraging natural repair processes.

Laser therapy is often used in a multimodal approach to treating pets with both acute and chronic inflammation.

Benefits of Laser Therapy

  • Supports tissue repair and wound healing
  • Helps reduce inflammation and swelling
  • Eases post-surgical discomfort
  • Provides relief for arthritis and joint pain
  • Assists with acute spinal conditions
  • Helps manage neuropathic pain

Client Testimonials

“You can tell right away that they care about the animals here. My dog is usually nervous at the vet, but the team moved slowly, talked to her, and never forced anything. Highly recommend!!”
